Excellent. We choose many small plates - ceviche, guacamole, empanadas & plantains. All delicious. Best tapas we've had in awhile! Also, make sure to get a strong! sangria. Yum!

I have eaten here 10+ times and the food and service have always been excellent. The atmosphere is bright, cheery and clean. The food is Latin influenced and delivers an upscale experience in flavor. The shrimp dishes are fantastic and I have been satisfied with everything I have ordered.

Great food and awesome service! Finally! I mean, really great service! Lately, service has been sorely lacking at most other establishments, but Liz was great. Decor looks fresh and everything looked clean and new. Good portion sizes too, even for dessert! My husband and I highly recommend it!

I have always liked their food! They a pricy for a Latino restaurant but they are good and service is good. I always get the "Old Clothes" dish.

Antigua restaurant in West Allis puts a contemporary spin on dishes from Mexico, Spain, and Latin America. Chef Nicolas Ramos clearly has a passion for food, and it shows in the inventive dishes, and atmosphere of Antigua! My son and I popped in here on a Wednesday night, and drinks were 50% off. Twist my arm, I had the Pisco Sour, served in a fashionable little glass, and it was excellent. There's a small bar here, and I could see popping in for a drink and an appetizer. Their appetizer menu looks really good (Pupusas, Ceviche, Plantains, Guacamole). We started with the Roasted Corn & Poblano Guacamole. It had a nice tinge of lime, and light sprinkling of cheese on top, the corn gave it a slight sweetness, and Poblano a hint of warmth. Each menu item has a detailed description, and the flag of the country of origin, making it easy to see what you're ordering. Also, check-in on Yelp for a discount! Our Entrees: Carne a la Tampiqueña- marinated steak w/an excellent mole, guacamole and rice and beans. A hit! Ropa Vieja- A finely shredded beef, cooked to perfection with onions and tomatoes. It honestly tasted like one of my grandma's best dishes. Staff was on point all night. They were running some Black Friday and Cyber Monday gift card and gift package specials. Their website is kept up to date, and they list cooking classes through the end of 2013! Looks like a nice idea for a date, small group, or they have kids-only classes too. Antigua's not cheap- entrees are between $15-20. And while the décor is nice, they could use some fancier tables and chairs to match the pricepoint. Make it really fancy! I'll certainly be back- loved this place.

After hearing rave reviews of a certain guava margarita, I knew I had to try this place. Positives: The guava margarita definitely lived up to expectations. It was one of the better margaritas I've ever had. The service was also spot on - the perfect mix of attention and absence. The meat in the paella was melt in your mouth tender and delicious. Negatives: I thought the food overall needed a bit of acidity. I loved the guacamole but it was in dire need of some citrus. The paella would have been a million times better had it been served with some lime wedges and cooked with a bit less oil. And again with the ceviche - ceviche is supposed to have a strong citrus flavor and I just didn't taste it. Verdict: I'm between 3 and 4 stars on this one and I'm bumping it up to 4 because of the stellar service. I would come back for a beverage and maybe an appetizer. Not sure about dinner.

I've been dining here for years now, and they never disappoint. Their house-made Blackberry Sangria is fantastic. As well as the pumpkin seed guacamole. The tequila cream chicken is smooth with a little kick from the Jalepenos. The last time I had tilapia the server said it was sourced locally from Growing Power. The Mothers Day buffet was great and they also serve a buffet on Black Friday. Staff is professional, knowledgeable, and accomodating. A little Latin gem tucked away in a residential West Allis/West Milwaukee neighborhood.

Surprised to find $15 plates during lunchtime on the weekend, especially in West Allis. I went there for the Cuban pork but unfortunately it was gross and boring. I expected pork slow-cooked for hours and saturated with flavor. Instead the cubed pieces looked dry, unappealing and didn't have flavor past the outside. Our appetizer guacamole was good, but it was overall MUCH too overpriced for the entree quality and we won't return.

I'm mad at myself. This place has literally been a minute away from home, and I had never been. If I had gone sooner, I would have eaten their tasty, tasty meat/corn pancakes (Papusas) many more times and dipped my chips in the Roasted Poblano & Corn Guacamole over and over again. I also would have convinced many a friends to come with me so I could get the Paella Valenciana and not feel gluttonous. And those guava margaritas would have been poured more than twice. And the place is freakin' adorable. Era muy buenos amigos míos.

Hey, I just had dinner in Antigua. No... not really, Antigua in West Allis. I joined in for a meal with fellow yelpers part 2 of the international supper club dinners 2nd Wednesday of the month. Wow! They were able to accommodate all 13 of us. People at the table were fun and interesting I made a promise to myself not to be checking the Brewer game on the phone or yelling out scores. As this was not the setting. Psst loss to Colorado 2-6. At Antigua the menu has a variety of Latin style meals. I was happy to find a surprise when I checked in with the yelp application on the iPhone. It bought my first drink. Bonus! It can also be used for a free desert If you prefer. On Wednesday they have a two for one special. Note the drinks are not half priced. For example $4.00 for first beer, 2nd free. Which could be a problem when they don't provide a token for the second drink prior to closing. The atmosphere: (A) is modern and classy cloth napkins heavy stoneware. Bright colors. Lot parking is limited so carpool if you can. I need up on the street with a short walk. The service:(A) Rosie did a good job in describing the appetizers. The staff looked sharp and professional. The food: (A) I enjoyed the appetizers guacamole, quesadilla, the salsa was more like a picante sauce. I ordered the ropa vieja with ripe plantains. Wow, It was quite authentic the beans were more Cuban style with spices and salt. I wish they had Congri. I tried the paella it was tasty moist and full of flavor. I requested some hot sauce for the meat. They brought a creamy hot sauce that had a mild flavor. Not what I expected but good none the less.

Antigua is solid -- and a great restaurant worth your time, the drive (depending on where you live) and your hard earned $. I meant to write this review a while ago, since we went back in early August -- but dear readers, you should know I've thought fondly of Antigua since then. Now it is time to return. For starters, the service was excellent. Very friendly and welcoming staff. We sat outside so I did not get to experience the ambiance of the interior. Ah well, another time. Dining from the brunch menu we tried the chilaquiles (4.5 stars) -- my first experience with this Mexican dish and it did not disappoint. Quite a kick in spice and the accompanying charcoal grilled beef was tender and soaked up the spices well. I've had these since then (in Mexico) and thought Antigua did a better job with the dish! We also sampled the Guajilo glazed chicken (3.5 stars) -- with, wait for it, cilantro lime rice...yummm! I had to fight off my wife's fork and distractions as she attempted to consume all of my rice -- how rude ;-)! Why did we not sample more? Well -- portion sizes! Huge (5 stars) -- so filling we both took "to-go" boxes home. I must admit we did try the fresh guacamole (4 stars) which I believe was on the house -- and I'm not quite sure how our bill was as low as it was, but the server just commented on "chef's special." OK, I'll take it. I'll be back to Antiqua very soon -- if this was in downtown MKE it would be packed on the regular! Looking forward to returning for the full dinner menu and more.

Been here several more times since opening and definately has gone downhill, which is so sad. No more shots as you leave. Still the appetizers when you arrive; those are still good. Sad was the frozen plantain appetizer I was seved on one visit. Also sad was the super salty spinach salad I had on another visit. And my husband's meats super dried out... :( Place is cute, wish it would go back to the days of first opening...

Use to love this place. The first few times we went it was delicious, but it seemed to go downhill after each visit. Also, they use to have an amazing happy hour on Wednesday's, but the server's never knew about it and they would look at us like we made it up, until we pulled it up on our phones and showed them. Unfortunately, they no longer have the happy hour and the food is priced a bit too high, for what you get.

Usually when I think West Allis, I think aging, dark, old. Antigua does not reflect that at all. The restaurant is bright, fresh and clean. The decor is nice, the large windows are a benefit on sunny afternoons. For cocktails, I ordered the sangria which was fantastic, followed by a margarita. The margarita was better than most of the restaurants in the area, one of the best I have ever had. We ordered the Lomo Saltado and Ropa Vieja for our dinners. The food was incredible. It was fresh, high quality ingredients cooked to perfection. I absolutely loved the cilantro rice, and it was such a pretty green color. The prices were fair and the servers were wonderful. Since the food is Cuban, it requires lots of explanation for people like me who do not experience it often enough. The server's knowledge and patience was very helpful. I can't wait to go back for the Sunday sangria deal.

Slow, slow, slow! Plan on like 2 hours to eat. Food was cold and didn't have a lot of flavor. I'm not a fan and won't be back

I absolutely enjoyed the company I was with at Antigua, but was thoroughly disappointed with this restaurant's small plate service / Tapas. I ordered 4 different small plate offerings from the menu and did not like a single one. Disappointing! The staff were great though, our waiter was a great guy - too bad he had to serve such bland, blah food. No thanks.

  • Sarah R.

Great food and our server Nancy was wonderful! I would definitely come back. I had the Camarones Antigua and they just melted in my mouth! Of course it's hard to go wrong with bacon wrapped shrimp stuffed with cheese. My only suggestion is to have more of the spicy sauce with the dish.

Made my first trip to Antigua about 2 weeks ago. I had a gift certificate. They have fun Foursquare check in specials, I'm talking a free drink or dessert-That's unheard of! Ordered the paella, says it feeds two but we ate for days. You even get free house appetizers! We also ordered to double fried plantains so needless to say we had a ton of food. Then to top it off, I met the owner. Who's an amazing business woman a week later. She remembered that I had Tweeted about my paella. I'm a sucker for being remembered :) I hear she does catering and also is planning an organized trip to Spain this fall and a paella cooking class. My only complaint is that the mojito I ordered was a bit syrupy-I prefer more traditional with fresh fruit if it's flavored. However, it was j$5.50 so I can't really complain. I feel like every time I order mojitos lately they're sweeter than I prefer-Tastes like people are using Sprite/7-Up these days. I digress... I will definitely return. I'll try another cocktail and report back! All in the name of Yelp....

This is THE place for tapas in Milwaukee. Family run business with great service and better food. Go to this restaurant.

We had a party of 6. All had separate dishes and all were very good. I had a beef dish from Peru that had a little heat and great taste. Bacon wrapped shrimp was great as well. Will go back and try more

Not your typical 'Stallis restaurant. I've wanted to go here ever since they opened. It's been a long time coming, but I finally made it. First, I'd like to say that I'm torn between 4 and 5 stars. There is a possible upgrade for them in the future, but I'm sticking with 4 for now for a few reasons: 1) We ordered Tapas only. No drinks, and no main dishes. I'd love to try some more stuff! 2) We went at noon on Saturday and were given a dinner menu. Later, I found out on their website that there is a lunch menu, but only offered on weekdays. I guess that might not be a huge deal in itself, but we went with our 2 year old for "lunch"... not a dinner experience. And to me, trying to create a dinner experience (and charge dinner prices for it) in the middle of the day on a Saturday is like putting potpourri in an outhouse - it just doesn't work. We ordered Guacamole, Cuban Style Plantains, Pupusas, and Yolanda Empanadas. The Guacamole: Some of the best I've ever tasted in a restaurant, and definitely the freshest I recall having in a long time. It's on the mellow side, allowing the creaminess of the avacado to really control the flavor. 5 stars! The Plantains: Extremely-balanced flavor, and impressive use of garlic in this dish. Reading the description on the menu does not give this dish justice. It's just a must-have! 5 stars! Pupusas: That's just a cool name for a dish. Why wouldn't you want to eat something called "Pupusas"? And don't say, "because it starts with pupu." The flavor is kickin' in these bad boys! If you like masa harina, this is the dish for you. It's like a potato pancake made from masa, and stuffed with seasoned pork. 4 stars! Yolanda Empanadas: Literally, an explosion of flavors inside a light, flakey crust. Everything worked together and stood out on its own. A very well-crafted dish that left me wanting more. 5 stars! Aside from the food, our server was excellent. She was friendly and helpful, prompt, brought the little guy some crayons and paper right away, and always had a smile. The serving sizes and prices were fair, everything tasted very fresh, and the dining room was clean, comfortable, and inviting. I will be back. Oh yes... I WILL be back!

First of all...have you ever paid full price anytime you ate here? seriously: no. Antigua is abundant with various offers on the many discount sites, you can unlock a free drink or dessert with Yelp! Always a huge plus when you can knock a few dollars off a meal or get a free drink. And the drinks...are great! This is the type of place where i start looking at the menu during the afternoon, and start narrowing down my options before i arrive at the restaurant. So many great flavors to pick from. Next time i'm going to try the paella, and i betcha i'll come back and bump this up to a 5 star review. I'm also interested in taking one of their courses that they offer. Yet again...another hidden gem within West Allis.

Great deals, great choices - what's not to love? Both times I've been here I've been accompanied by gift certificates or coupons - makes a yummy meal all the better. But this gem would be worth full price anytime. The menu has so many delicious choices - some of my favorites include the Carne a la Tampiqueña (marinated beef tenderloin served with a mole enchilada, guacamole, rice and beans and warm corn or flour tortillas) and the Camarones Antigua (shrimp stuffed with melted cheese and wrapped in bacon, served with a zesty, spicy sauce). Yes, you read that right. Shrimp stuffed with CHEESE and wrapped in BACON. I mean, c'mon. The guac is good, the guava tea is heavenly and I love that you get a free sampling of appetizers with dinner. Yum! To top it off, the service is solid and the staff are always friendly.

I debated at the start of this review: 2 or 3 stars? This is again one of those cases where I really wanted a 1/2 star option...cause I'm really on the fence with this one. However, when I looked at the Yelp descriptions (3 stars = A-OK and 2 stars = Meh, I've experienced better) I was still on the fence. Truthfully, I would say the food is in-between those based on those descriptions, but the happy hour is good, and after my original review posted, their management contacted me to let me know that my food concerns would be passed onto the chef. I give them a lot of credit for that. --- I'm going to start by saying that I love Latin food, and that it's a food group that we consume a lot. My husband has been known to joke that there is secretly a Latina trapped in my Polish body. I tried Antigua twice in the last few months, based on the recommendations of some friends. The servers are always friendly, and if you take advantage of Happy Hour, the bar bill is reasonable as well. As for the food, I really want to be impressed, but haven't been. On both visits, nothing has really been that wrong, but by the same token, nothing has really been that right either. The one sentence food synopsis would be "The food experience is OK, but only that and not really anything more; for a more flavorful and authentic Latin experience, I would rather go to Chef Paz / La Canoa / Cubanita's / Cempazuchi". The thing that really draws us to Latin food is the bold flavors and use of acidity. Antigua sacrifices that, but probably makes the food a little more approachable to more people. We are in Milwaukee, so for those of you that are interested in libations rather than solid sustenance, I will say this: They do have some good cocktails, including a variety of margaritas and other mixed drinks, such as the Paloma and Pisco Sour. And they do have a good HH special, so if you are looking for cocktails after work, this could be a good spot to pick! The staff is friendly and polite. As for the atmosphere, it's nicer and more recently updated than most restaurants in West Allis. In case you decide to dine here, here's the skinny on the food: I'll start with my favorite food item on the menu: 1. Cochinita Sliders. Ok, sliders...at a Latin restaurant. I don't think of sliders as Latin cuisine, but the description sounded interesting and flavorful. It was actually our favorite thing on the menu between the two visits there. Instead of serving it on the bun, I think the flavors would really pop if they did a simple lettuce cup with the same filling and topping. The pickled onions really make this dish pop. And now I'll move onto the items that didn't resonate with me (or my dining companions). 2. Ceviche. It's one of my favorite foods - generally full of vibrant flavors, crisp acidity and a bit of heat. It's bland here, without much acidity. In Peru, they serve the ceviche with the juice (which is called leche de tigre); the menu at Antigua specifies Mexican ceviche, which had most of the juice drained off; our ceviche was really dry. I don't know if it's just the style of ceviche that doesn't agree with me, or the particular recipe used here, but next time I crave ceviche, I will head to Chef Paz for authentic Peruvian ceviche. The ceviche here is made with shrimp; I do generally prefer a fish ceviche over shrimp ceviche, but I my main issue with the ceviche was the lack of lime juice. 3. Guacamole. It was decent, but it could have used more acidity as well as more salt. The two others that I was dining with agreed - it had good texture, but it was very bland. 4. Cuban plantains. Again, the consensus was that they could have used more acidity and savory notes to balance out the sweetness of the ripe plantains. 5. Entrees: Ropa Vieja and one of their signature dishes, Camarones Antigua. Both were lacking flavor and balance. I think they have a great concept, and the interior is well appointed. It's also a convenient location if you want Latin food but don't want to travel to the south side or the east side. Note - if you want another restaurant that you can do a food tour of Latin America, Cempazuchi is another option. If they re-visit their menu adjust things (salt and acidity would be a great start) and perhaps focus their menu a bit more, they could be a restaurant that gets pulled into my Latin cravings rotation.

FOUR SOLID-A$$ STARS: Food: 4/5 -- Breakdown: I loved a few of the apps (patatas bravas!), didn't love a few of the others, didn't love my artery-clogging shrimp (why did I order that, anyways?), totally loved the Paella I stole from Joanna and Brian. There are moar things to try on their menu, too. I can haz seafood paella? I can haz ropa vieja? Ambiance: 5/5 -- Who'da thunk it? And in 'stallis, even? (NOTE: I like to call West Allis "Westallica." Does that make me a jerk?) Service: 6/5 -- SHOUT OUT: Rosie. Rosy. Gurl, big groups are hard to deal with, and you handled our disorganization with expert skill. Seriously. You're good. You're way good. Drinks: 4/5 -- Wine list ohh-kay, specialty drink offerings = the jam. 2 fer 1 happy hour = super fantastic deal. Yelp check-in offer = WAY AWESOME. Like Arnold S said, "I'll be back."

We went here based on solid Yelp reviews and were not disappointed! I love that Antigua brings a fresh approach by offering items from Spain, Cuba and other Latin American nations in addition to traditional Mexican items. As noted, they give you a little app plate to start with a croquette, mini quesadilla and empanada. That didn't stop our party of four from ordering three more apps: pork sliders, empanadas and guac. All were very tasty, but I felt the guac was a bit too lime-y for my taste. On to mains: hubby & I got paella, the others got bacon wrapped shrimp and chicken chipolte. When they set my paella down I felt like yelling (Estelle Costanza style) WHAT AM I SUPPOSED TO DO WITH ALL THIS PAELLA? Because it was a huge dish. And a delicious one, with chunks of fall apart chicken and tender pork. Could have been more garlicky but that is a nitpick. My husband sampled the other two dishes and proclaimed them both delicious, especially the shrimp. Dessert: really didn't need to be ordered but what the hell...we tried the plantains which were served in a rum sauce, much like Bananas Foster. Flan was rich & delicious. We all left with massive food babies but it was worth it!

We have eaten at quite a few South American restaurants, even small mom and pop restaurants but this one was not even close to authentic! We stopped here because they had a full bar and also serve Pisco sour. Let me tell you, it was sour! The server was nice but the service very slow. The food was terrible at best. The meet was chewy and the salmon was tasteless! If what we ordered was the restaurants recommendation, I'm glad we didn't try to pick something of the menu. I have never posted a review before but I had to for this one after seeing some 5 star reviews. Are we rating the same restaurant...?

3 or 4? 3 or 4? Went to Antigua a few weeks ago with friends - we couldn't decide where to go, and they had great things to say about the place, so we thought we would give it a try. The ambiance was neater than I expected - really a neat, modern feel, which is something I wasn't expecting from the location of the restaurant. The meal started off great as well when they brought out a little plate of appetizers instead of the usual chips and salsa - nice touch. My entree was the lomo saltado (photo), and it was definitely tasty, but just lacked a little something. I wish I could put my finger on it, and I may have to try it again to see if perhaps I was just having an off day, but I felt it could have been better. Somehow. I guess the tip over to 4 stars would have to be the free desert I got for checking in on yelp :) We took home the spicy chocolate cake, and it did have a nice little kick to it! I'll go back to Antigua... I may even order the same entree, as I really want to confirm this 4 star rating is the correct one... I think so...

Highly recommend the Cochinita pork sliders and Guacamole with sun-dried tomatoes and pumpkin seeds. One star off for unorganized (no to-go or catering menus) and take home package leaked oil everywhere.

This will be a very quick review because it doesn't need to be flowered with personal opinions or comparisons. The simple fact is: I ordered the Poblano Chicken Pasta. It was supposed to have come with a "delicious poblano pepper sauce." What did mine come with? Nothing. It was PLAIN penne pasta topped with a little sprinkle of shredded cheese and chicken. No sauce at all. We're talking a $15 plate of dry pasta. I've been wanting to try Antigua for a long time. It's a shame that they disappointed me so much.

Just got home from dinner at Antigua. I am so glad they are only a few blocks away! The restaurant has a great ambiance and is very cozy. The staff was great. Very attentive without being disruptive. We had the pupusas and shrimp ceviche tapas for appetizers. They were both delicious! Yum yum!! We shared the seafood paella. It was very good. The fish in the paella was great but I thought the lobster, shrimp, and mussels were overcooked and a little tough. Compared to other restaurants with seafood paella Antigua did not give as much seafood as the others.... However that's not a negative. I thought it was great to have a little bit of each but it was fairly expensive for the little amount of actual seafood. Anyway, that was a tangent. Moral of the story: delicious food, will definitely be back! I love the guava margaritas

An overall great experience. Antigua is located on 58th and burnham and offers parking in a lot located on the west side of the building. If that is not available then there is street parking to be found. Don't be fooled by the building because the entrance is located by the lot. If you don't see it you may get confused by the entrance for the catering office. Inside is a small to mid size nicely decorated interior. A young gentleman held the door open for us and promptly seated us. It was rather busy but we lucked out as a table was immediately available. Before moving on I just wanted that this was the beginning of the exceptional service found here. Let's hit the one negative real quick. There are tables rather close to the bar area which is where we were seated. A large group was meeting there and filing in little by little. They tended to stand extremely close to our table to the point where I was going to ask the young man and woman if they wanted a seat to emphasize their disregard for other diners. They were clogging the servers path and congregating in and around diners. The issue is that is wasn't handled properly by the staff as it presented a problem. If you notice a full bar area perhaps wait for a table a little further from that area as not to be bothered. Also you could choose to dine outside. I don't see this really being isolated as an incident. I could see that being a problem in the future and this prevents the 5th star unless the staff can better manage it next time. I don't like people standing directly around me while I am trying to eat and talk. On to the positives! You'll get started on the house appetizers as you browse the menu. We also ordered the pupusas. Which i must add were great and I love that "slaw" that it came with. That really brought it together. The main courses were the Lomo Saltado (Peruvian) Churrassco Argentino (take a guess). Out of the two the Lomo Saltado was the star of the meal. A nice grouping of complex flavors as you figure out how many starches you can fit into one dish. I love that about Peruvian food. The Churrassco Argentino which is steak served with chimichurri sauce and potatoes. I am mainly disappointed because it lacks the complex flavors of the other dish. In all honestly it's the safe bet on the menu for those not too adventurous. Steak was on my mind throughout the day so I saw no real reason not to try this. It was cooked to order but lacked overall flavor. To be honest I have had better steaks. If you are thinking about the steak dish I would advise you skip it. Get a steak in a place that specializes in it. For dessert we had the spicy chocolate strawberry moose. It really does everything right. Your tastebuds will enjoy the cool chocolate and strawberry sauce and then immediately be either delighted or confused as the back of your throat warms up with spice. It was a fun dessert and one that we enjoyed. During our meal the cook was checking on diners and also who i believe is the manager had checked on us as well. I like that. Our waiter was very polite and helpful. He kept our beverages filled and made sure that we were content with our experience here. He wasn't too pesky or anything. It was a case of getting it just right. Really they've nailed the service aspect part like very few restaurants do and that is worth drawing attention to. You may be skeptical because perhaps you think the prices are a little high. Don't let that dissuade you. Treat yourself to something you are likely to never make yourself from a very diverse menu.

Vegetarians be warned, thou shalt leave hungry. Unless you came full. Pros: this place is clean, trendy, and has a solid atmosphere. Our waitress, Nancy, was great - friendly, funny, attentive. Instead of chips and salsa, they give you "special" things. The potato cheese fritters were amazing. Cons: there are exactly ZERO non-meat entrees. There are exactly 3 vegetarian friendly options: 2 appetizers (guacamole, plantains) and 1 soup (though may have meat stock, didn't ask). This is incredibly disappointing. NO vegetarian options!? None?! Zero? What is this, 1950?! I had the plaintain tapas. Overall taste was good, but the plantain slices were sitting in a large pool of oil (not kidding you, at least 1/3 cup of oil). Sincerely disappointing. The taste was good but the oil made the plaintains almost impossible to eat. I only ate about half the dish. My brother said he really enjoyed the tacos he ordered. The guac could have used some pizzazz. In conclusion, I was lucky to not be very hungry when we went because there was no option for me. This still baffles me...not a single non-meat dish!

Just had my first dinner at Antigua, and it was every bit as good as our previous lunches. The food is the epitome of fresh, and the service was some of the friendliest, and helpful I've had the pleasure of experiencing in a long time. I don't even like sea food and I was digging in on the Mexican Ceviche was just tasted amazing. I was also pleasantly surprised with their house sangria. very nice! Keep up the good work Antigua.

I returned to Antigua because the bacon wrapped shrimp have been screaming my name. They are in my thoughts and dreams at night. I had no choice but to cir cum to their powers. I am so glad I did! We went for our anniversary and I had a couple of the Mexican Sangrias - absolutely yummy, I do recommend and the main entree...... drum role please...... the Cheese Stuffed Shrimp Wrapped In Bacon!!!!! YEaaaahhhhh! Can you tell I was so happy. Food was fantastic, drinks were fantastic, service was good. I left food and shrimply satisfied because it was shrimply the best! Had a few left over and let me tell ya, they are great cold in the am too! What?! - it's bacon, that's a breakfast food.

This was described to us as "high end Mexican" but really it is more South American which they do advertise in their website. We ordered the shrimp dish which was bacon wrapped shrimp. The menu described it as shrimp with cheese and bacon wrapped. We were served a salad composed of field greens, red onion, and finely diced tomato, already dressed. A bread tray with four small thin slices of what appeared to be a french bread, and a small bowl of herbed aioli. Three bites to a slice. There were eight generous shrimp heavily wrapped in bacon, with a nicely spiced chipotle sauce. Unfortunately, the bacon was hard, no apparent cheese which may have melted away in the deep fryer, and the shrimp was tough. The location is nice, easy parking, the staff was friendly and attentive, but I wouldn't be inspired to visit a second time. Aside from the sauce with the shrimp, it was rather bland.

Good food. Great first experience with this place!! Me and the wife shared the Argentinian steak, and I had a guava margarita!! Gotta try it. As a great steak chef myself, I know how to recognize a good steak. I stop eating if the steak is not up to my standard. This was Great steak!!!

Just wanted to update my review and say that I had another Great experience at Antigua. Went in on a Saturday about noon and the place was completely empty. Bad for business, but Great for us. We got Amazing service. We tried the two soups they have, Caldito Xochitl (Chicken broth with shredded chicken, cilantro, onions, tomatoes, avocado, rice and tortilla strips, served with a wedge of lime) and Crema de Elot (homemade cream of corn, served with tortilla chips) Both soups were Amazing!! A large portion and reasonably priced. I had a Groupon that was about to expire so we shared a few of the tapas on the menu. All of which were Delicious. Glad I was able to come back and upgrade to 5 stars. Absolutely no complaints, and another favorite to add to my list!!

Solid 4 stars! Not what I would expect for the area but delicious Mexican/hybrid/don't know how to explain the menu kind of food. Small but quaint. Not too loud. We'll be back, especially since they always seem to have a deal on Groupon!

Antigua catered our wedding last month and we are so pleased with them. Lali and Rosi were great to work with beforehand, and the their staff at the reception were very professional and courteous. We heard from our parents that the passed appetizers went over very well, and the dinner buffet was delicious. The only complaint I heard from our guests was that the portions were small and there was not enough food. I think though, that everyone did get a plate. But that was the only slightly negative thing I heard; other than that people raved about it. The other thing I want to mention is that Antigua was so very accommodating! All of the flatware, dinnerware, linens, head table, water service, and cake cutting and serving was in included, which made my life so much easier. I highly recommend Antigua Catering. Also, the restaurant is really lovely!

One of my favorite places in the world is Antigua, Guatemala. Unfortunately, this place didn't live up to my experience in Antigua at all. But what makes it a great option is that they usually have coupons/deals available online to eat here! The good: -Decor is fun/nice -Service is friendly, but slow The Not-so-Bad: -Ceviche: but only shrimp -Pupusas: I *heart* pupusas, but I found this to be lacking a bit -Paella: after waiting so long, our expectations may have risen. Just OK - wouldn't get it again. The Ugly: -Tostones: super greasy Wouldn't say it's my go to place, but it's one of the few places in Stallis that's interesting and clean.

Actual visit 6/5/13. I had the Ropa Vieja and Cream de elote soup. Their ropa was a tiny bit different than what I was used to and I really didn't care for what looked like a tomato based broth that it was sitting in. I also didn't care for the green rice or the maduros that were also soaked in that same broth. I did have a to go order so maybe that's why this meal turned out they way it did. The Elote Soup wasn't even edible - it was WAY TOO SWEET and had a weird taste and wasn't anything like the corn chowder I was hoping for. I wouldn't go back.

If I wrote this review after my first trip I would have given Antigua 4 stars. However, after visiting here a second time my rating dropped. First off lets talk about the good. You get complimentary appetizers to start out. It was a small plate with a tiny quesadilla, two hush puppy type things, and two small empanadas...all delicious. If you check in on Yelp you get a free drink or free dessert. This includes beer. Cochinita pibil is absolutely delicious. I would order it again and again. My wife loves the ropa vieja...she's ordered it both times we have gone to Antigua. They have great service and a friendly staff. Now for the not so good. We ordered the alioli de cilantro and the menu described it as "Our creamy garlic dip is made with garlic, olive oil and cilantro, served with warm bread". I've never had alioli de cilantro before but I love everything listed in the description so how could we go wrong. It basically tasted like we were eating mayonnaise. There was no garlic flavor and minimal cilantro flavor. The bread was really good though. I decided to try the tequilla cream chicken on my second visit and the menu description was "Tender chicken breast, covered in our unique tequila cream sauce, served on a bed of avocados, rice and a side of our house salad." The chicken was a little overcooked but that is easy to do. The unique tequila cream sauce was not much more than sour cream. The bed of avocados turned out to be three really thin slices of the delicious fruit. I was really hoping for more. The house salad was the best part of this plate. My last complaint is that they are real stingy on giving out tortillas. The cochinita pibil is a very large plate of food but I only recieved three tortillas. I could have easily used 6. My wife asked for a side of tortillas to go with her ropa vieja because for some reason they are not included and she also only received three. You can make it work with three tortillas but you really need to over-stuff them. Will I go back to Antigua? Absolutely. The cochinita pibil is enough for me to return again and again. The main reason we will go back though is to try the Paella de Marsicos.

Interesting menu, not the same old notables but some real different combinations. Small dining room. There is always a deal available and this makes it very affordable.

The atmosphere is excellent! Very Contemporary - nice outdoor patio area too! They give you a small sample of their appetizers when you order a meal - which is FREE. How great is that! I tried the Tequila Cream Chicken. It was wonderful. Don't worry - you could not taste the tequila but the sauces was really creamy and delicious. I also had their mango ice tea. It tasted like the used fresh mango! One of the best ice teas I've ever had by far.

My wife took me to Antigua for the first time, she has been going there for a while now. First off the service was excellent, they sat us even though the closed in 20 mins, the waitress didn't rush us like most would in that situation. They had two for one specials on drinks(MARGARITAS!!) and our dinners came with a delicious salad and a tappas plater to share. The food was out of this world and the deserts were outstanding. Will definitely be eating here again.

My third trip to Antigua has finally helped form a solid 3 star review. Maybe 3.5. This last visit was tapas only. My party and I sampled 6 of the offerings and found all but one to be good to excellent. The best were the Colombiana Empanadas. Fried and filled with cheese and meat, how can you not like that? The Yolanda Empanadas had a more flavorful filling of spiced ground beef and raisins or currants, but the crust appeared re-heated - it looked like a 'waved croissant dough. The Pork Sliders were good, but there was too much bun for the meat. Pork Belly tacos would have been excellent if there were some sort of seasoning! I mean the most tender meat without so much as a sprinkle of salt left me disappointed. Finally we ate the Papusas. A corn cake with some shredded beef in the batter. The cake was dense also seemed re-heated and had very little flavor. I did not finish mine and the leftovers were not eaten either. Would definitely not order this again. My lime margarita (on the rocks) was very tasty and not too sweet. Service was very attentive and polite. I think prices are a little on the high side, but they have coupons and deals all over the place so if you pay full price you missed out. It is a nice change up from the typical texmex we have available in MKE. So if you want to stray from that bean and cheese path, Antigua offers some tasty options. Not everything on the menu is a winner imho. I am glad they are here, I got to try several menu items over a few trips. And I am sure I will be back, just not a 'go to' or 'to die for' spot for me. PS the Tequila chicken was the best thing I tried on the menu, that was a visit before the one I write about here.

I am "el Duke" of Antigua. Respect. Since lunchtime is my usual visiting hours, I like to get a nice hot sandwich. The 'sandwich cubano' is an extremely fine example of cuban sandwiches done well with fantastic ingredients. If I want to eat too much food, I will also order the "Caldito Xochitl" soup. You will thank me later. Duke certified. Respect *nom*nom*nom*

I tried the place because of Restaurant.com and the reviews I saw. The house salad was good, if you like red onions.....my son ate both of them. I ordered a shrimp special "Camarones a la Diablo", very spicy and delicious. We shared the "tequilla cream chicken" that the waitress recommended....neither of us were impressed.....thin, overcooked breast with too much sauce on it. My son ordered the Lomo Saltado....which the waitress also recommended. We both loved that.....beef strips with potatoes and a side of rice.....YUM! My $9 "cointreau margarita was seriously lacking something..... I thought the place was cute and the bar, glasses/mirror were spotless, which is a good sign in any restaurant! I'll look forward to our next visit!

Antigua has a loft type design, not what you'd expect on the south side of Milwaukee, which is a great plus. The lighting enhanced this atmosphere. The waitstaff worked very well together, if one walked past our table and saw we had completed a dish, they removed it. The food was excellent. I loved the Caldito Xochiti, it was a chicken soup with much more and plenty of chicken. My spouse had Encocao se Camarones and said it was great. We both had the Flan which was wonderful. The overall experience was a an unexpected treat. Will definitely return!

I'm very surprised by the other yelp reviews about this place. I've been here twice and have not been impressed. I left wanting so much more from Antigua! It is a newly opened restaurant in an area that doesn't have many new restaurants. The first time I went we ordered Tapas from their menu. The tapas seemed dried out and lacking flavor-we ordered 7 different tapas and didn't find any a must have in the future-they were all Meh... We ordered desert because the food was just not that great, and were actually pleasantly surprised that the Flan was really good. We went there a second time to give it another shot and ordered the Paella for 2 and were VERY disappointed. The paella tasted as if the chef had taken boxed rice, poured a lot of oil over it, then added chicken which had been cooked separately. The whole point of paella is to have a dish that has been marinated together with slow cooking...it was definitively not the case in this dish. It ended up being a super greasy rice and dried chicken, the waiter thought we weren't hungry because we could only force a little bit down and didn't want to take the rest with us even. I've had Paella a bunch of times and this was by far the worst I have ever tasted. I would not recommend ordering that dish! The only redeeming quality of this restaurant is that they give you three free appetizer bites and then a free shot of Peach Schnapps at the end of dinner. I would have really liked more out of this restaurant since it is so close to us! Big bummer on this one.

If you wake up one Sunday morning and want to break out the norm, think about heading to Antigua in West Allis for brunch. While the names might be confusing for some, the flavors will not disappoint. At roughly $15 per person, Antigua is not going to break the bank by any means, and with parking on the street or in the small lot in front of the restaurant, you won't have to worry about metered parking like in downtown. So, don't worry about your passport, just come with an open-mind and an empty stomach and enjoy a brunch at Antigua! Read the full review on MilwaukeeBrunchReviews.c… - milwaukeebrunchreviews.c…

Don't get me wrong - the food was pretty damned good. However, the service was fair (at best). The bad part was that I was denied use of my very valid coupon (from Groupon). If you are looking for good food and don't really care if the staff will refill your drinks or honor your requests, then by all means, go there. However, if you value the experience of dining as much as the actual food, find somewhere else. I feel like Taco Bell would have treated me better.

I love this place! Great food and drinks. The iced teas are really refreshing. The food is fresh and delicious! I love the free appetizers and lunch comes with free dessert (flan). We just had the paella and it was good. We live so close... So will be back.. Service was great too. I have nothing bad to say about this place.

Came here for dinner on a Saturday night. The restaurant was full and we still got great, attentive service! We didn't have a reservation and managed to squeak in right before it filled up, but I would recommend making one on weekends, since we were there for 2 hours and it was full the whole time and didn't look like it was slowing down. They start you off with a complimentary appetizer plate with 3 different apps. This is a great touch, who doesn't like something for free! I ordered the Ropa Vieja - so good! Great tasting and the perfect amount of food. We also got the Lomo Saltado, which is a spicy dish, but the perfect amount of spicy! The flavor layers in both these dishes were great! We ended our meal sharing a Spicy Chocolate Cake. So fluffy and light served with whipped cream and strawberries. It really is spicy!! I loved this twist on a chocolate cake. I was still licking my lips on the drive home :) Definitely come give this place a try!

This is becoming one of my favorites. The drinks, as in the cosmo are out of this world. Free appetizer is nice too. Professional staff, they may even remember if you've been there only twice. I am definitely going to say the Camarones Antgua is the best dish listed but choose what you like. It is amazing. The cilantro rice served with a lot of the dishes is really good. the aioli is fabulous also as an appetizer. They give you a free appetizer with dinners ordered as well. Their appetizer salads are fresh, not over dressed. Great date place or girlfriends or family. People are so friendly and professional. website has many specials. I don't bother looking anymore, I just like the atmosphere, food, staff and drinks. I would recommend it to anyone, I think it's a great place, wish I was in the neighborhood more. I've come on weekends and during the week. I've come when it's not so busy and busy. Waits are not long, it's a comfortable place to hang out and visit with your friends. They have some outdoor seating as well.

Used my yelp coupon to try out Antigua again. Chicken tortilla soup was outstanding. Unfortunately, they had a group of about 25 people before me, so service was extremely slow. Not their fault, just bad timing on my part.

mole is very unexpected. too fruity and chocolatey for my palate. their chicken is not cooked in the sauce and seemed like it was frozen before. rice and beans lack flavor and genuine quality. flan was good though.

This was my first visit. Had to try some Cuban food. Never had it before but glad I did! This place is great. This is a very modern, clean looking place. Easy to find. Parking is available. So I order the Ropa Vieja at his recommendation. Within a minute he brings out some unexpected appetizers, mango quesadilla, potato cirquest and pork&cheese empanadas. All were great tasting. Then the Ropa came. It was fresh, tasty and well presented. Then for less than a buck I ordered some Flan which is a desert like a cheesecake I guess. Anyway - what a great place for lunch or dinner. The service was great.

We bought a couple Group-on coupons to Antigua and tried it out twice over the past couple months--ending up there last night for dinner. Don't think of this place as a Mexican restaurant, because you'll be either surprised or disappointed. It really is a Latin restaurant with fare from Argentina, Mexico, etc. The restaurant is located in the middle of a semi-sketchy area of West Allis. The building just kind of comes out of nowhere and has a nice exterior with patio and a very nice open dining room inside. We've eaten outside and inside and sitting outside is definitely interesting people watching with plenty of visits to the liquor store across the street but ultimately we preferred inside. The service has been solid both times with helpful staff to guide our choices. They have a great selection of drinks and beers. We really enjoy their pomegranate margarita. The first time we visited we got the guacamole and our own entrees (I remember having an Argentinean steak that was just okay). What we didn't realize is that the restaurant gives you some appetizers to start (gratis). So we ended up way too full. The second time we took advantage of the Thursday special of 4 tapas plates for $25. We had the guacamole (good), tomolones (okay), fish civiche (not good--I think they even used shrimp cocktail in it with way too much vinegar), and an omelet with potatoes (good--can't remember the name). Along with the gratis appetizers we again left pretty stuffed but going with the tapas was a better experience for us. Ultimately the Groupon coupon brought us here, would I go back without it? Perhaps.

We stopped in on a whim for lunch today and did not regret it! We checked in on Yelp and both got free drinks (way awesome) and the complimentary apps (a small quesadilla, a pork-cheese empanada, and something like a hush puppy) were a delicious prelude to our meals. I got the ropa vieja and it was incredibly good. My husband got the cochinita pibil and that had great flavor. We got flan for desert and it beat all other flans we've ever had- it was thicker and more closely related to cheesecake than flan in our opinion :)

I can't say much more then the other reviews for Antigua. My first observation was the very cool "Yelp" sticker in the window before you walk through the doors. Once in, you better be hungy. I felt like I just put down a full Thanksgiving day diner when I left. My wife and I went with another couple and all of us looked like we either needed a nap or a long walk to digest. We started the night with 3 Tapas and each were excellent. I really enjoyed the pork sliders and guacamoli. I ordered a spicy chicken diner that came as fajita type dish with soft shells, rice and beans. I was full half way through diner, but the flavor kept me eating till I was uncomfortable. Do this that stopped us from ordering dester, of course not. I really enjoyed the Flan which came in a way I've never seen before. It reminding me of cheesecake, but was delicious. Overall, we will be back. Strongly recommended.

This place was great! I came here because of a Living Social coupon, but had heard about it a few years ago - after I came back from Argentina I searched for a place I could get empanadas and this place came up. I love the concept of all different kinds of Latin food (all marked with a little flag where they are from). Fun and educational! We tried the pupusas (delicious little filled corn pockets), fried plantains (amazing), and patatas bravas (very spicy but delicious as well). Split an entree of Lomo Saltado (from Peru) - very good, tender beef atop delicious green rice. I was so full at this point I wish i could have eaten more! Fabulous sangria - tried "the Mexican", with vodka and lemonade - who knew? Absolutely a wonderful experience, a great place if you can't decide exactly what type of Latin food you want - there's something for everyone!

I've been going here for years and went again last night, for the first time in well over a year and a half, and had yet another delicious meal with stellar service. I've probably had half the menu and not been disappointed yet, though the Salmon con Zarzamoras continues to remain my favorite. And the Black Gold Margarita, too. Keep it up, Antigua, and I'll keep coming in and sending others your way!

We've been going here regularly for over five years now, to the point that we're on first-name basis with half the servers (who have also been there that long, so it says something about Lali's management style!). They keep their menu up-to-date but don't overdo it on the changes--we're still coming for their popusas, which I totally crave on a regular basis (and don't forget to order extra curtido, since the spicy marinated cabbage really sets off the flavors well).

We went during happy hour. The drinks were top-notch - excellent Mojito. There was also some spicy potato dish we had that was very, very good. They let us use our groupon as well as foursquare deals congruently and were very helpful and polite the entire time. We will definitely be coming back again, even though it is a little far from where we live.

My visits to Antigua have been some wonderful dining experiences. After being seated, the wait staff gives a free sampling of appetizers rather than the standard chips and salsa that one would expect at a Mexican/Latin American restaurant. A welcome change if you ask me. The flavors are authentic in every dish that I've tried--about half of the menu items--and blend with each other nicely. The pupusas are amazing and the mole sauce is tasty. The service has always been very good and the waitresses offer very helpful suggestions if you want to know what menu item to try. Antigua has been consistently great and is definitely worth visiting.

Be careful if you use a credit card! I visited Antigua for the first time last week for lunch. The food was ok, the place was nice enough and the prices were reasonable (at lunchtime). The problem came when I checked my credit card bill. My total was $21.29 and I left a $4 tip (just under 19%). I paid by credit card. How odd - when my credit card was charged, the total somehow changed to $30.29 instead of $25.29! Apparently the server, who was quite slow and not all that good, must have decided that she deserved more and simply helped herself to an extra $4. I will never return to this place. It could have had the best food in the world...I will not go to a place that steals from customers! They should be ashamed.

I really enjoyed checking in with Yelp & receiving a free alcoholic beverage! The Tequila Cream Chicken was delicious and the appetizer sampler plate that the waitress brought to the table was a nice starter. The mojito was yummy and my friend enjoyed shrimp, Gambas al Ajillo it was just the right amount of food! Most restaurants load your plate with tons of food and Antigua did not which was nice since my friend & I are trying to eat healthy.

I had dinner here tonight with a friend. It was my second trip to Antigua. Previously I had the Camarones Antigua which I highly recommend. I was going to get that dish again when I decided to branch out and try the Lomo Saltado and I'm glad I did. It was amazing. My friend had the Tequila Cream Chicken which was also very good. Antigua always serves a free house appetizer plate that tonight featured chips with guacamole, croquettes, and mini cheese quesadillas. They serve this in place of chips and salsa. My only gripe about tonight was the slow service. We came in around 7pm and we were told there was a 15 minute wait, which is no big deal. When we went to the bar to kill the time I feel that we were not acknowledged right away and the service was slow. After our wait was up and we got a table we waited a long time before the waitress came over to serve us. The waitress didn't really introduce herself at all, just came up to the table and asked us what we wanted. The food was slow to arrive and the waitress never bothered to ask either of us if we wanted more drinks. I believe last time the meal ended with free shots of peach schnapps but that was not the case this time. Not sure if that tradition has ended or if the waitress just didn't provide them. There is a small outdoor eating area for those nice summer nights. I give the restaurant 4 stars based on their excellent food but I couldn't give it 5 stars based on their level of service (or lack there of).

So how do you follow up a wonderful Saturday afternoon with your mom and bf after the Miller Brewery Tour? I know, I know...with an early dinner at Antigua Latin cuisine. Now I was a little skeptical because all the reviews I noted were from 2006-2008 mostly, and a couple from early 2009. That being said, I knew it was my duty to provide an update to my fellow Yelpers looking for nice, Latin dining in Mili-wau-kay. Don't expect the same old chips and salsa to get that appetite going, because at Antigua, they get it started with appetizers, and for us this fine Saturday afternoon, empanadas. Might I recommend sangrias and piña coladas to wash it all down with. We ordered from the additional special menu they handed us which was the Wine & Dine Wisconsin 2010: 3 for $25. Seemed like it was too good to be true with an appetizer, an entrée, and a dulce dessert to top it all off. So after we each ordered, the server went to place the order, but appeared minutes later with her head down, as if doing the "walk of shame." Guess what! It was too good to be true, and thus cost them a star. Apparently there was a mistake and that offer wasn't available, but I believe that under these circumstances a restaurant should accept their own mistakes, advise accordingly, but respect what they've offered. Nonetheless, being the kind folk we are, we didn't complain and didn't want to cause the server any more "pena" so I ordered my good ol' fav guacamole to start and as a main dish I passed over the traditional Cuban Ropa Vieja for a Mexican Cochinita Pibil. Now having recently had a very good cochinita (see XOCO Chicago), the bar was high and my taste buds were salivating. What I got was a delicious and well-prepared version of cochinita pibil, in terms of authenticity and seasoning, it was right up there. The only quagmire I have is regarding the quality or amount of fat on the cochinita. Now, we all know good pork is cloaked in fat and should cause an instant heart attack, but this was a little much. So after a little maneuvering, like a saavy and well-skilled boucher, my cochinita was trimmer and leaner. The maraschino cherry on the afternoon experience was when they pleasantly presented us with a shot of Peach Schnapps to cleanse the palette. At first I thought "ugh" then I thought "ooohh" as it softly cleared my throat and coated my belly. Sometimes we're pleasured with small coincidences in life that make us smile. Who would have known that our dining experience at Antigua was precedent to our experience in the beautiful city of Antigua, Guatemala a couple of weeks later. All in all, BOTH Antiguas left us wanting (and Yelping!) for more.....

I love this restaurant. The colors are soothing and relaxing. The waitstaff is kind, and I practice my Spanish with them. The food is delicious, although some of my friends think the portions could be a little bigger. The menu features dishes from throughout Southern and Central America. They give you a little appetizer sampler and I've heard that for dinner you receive a shot of peach schnapps. It is not busy during lunch The first time I went I ordered "Ropa Vieja" which is a Cuban pork dish. I also ordered Mexican cebiche which is raw fish marinated in lemon juice. They serve it with tortilla chips. I am willing to go to this restaurant again and again.

My husband and I went here since it was in the entertainment book (lame, I know). However, the INSTANT we walked in the door, we loved the place because it felt and smelled like we were back in Costa Rica, where we honeymooned almost a year ago. They even had caiprihanas!! Our server was fantastic, bringing us a sampler platter of their appetizers on the house. We really liked the Mexico Ceviche and both of us had enchiladas for dinner - tequila cream for him, yucatanes for me. The server also brings you a complementary shot of peach schnapps for the after dinner drink. This custom was started by the owner's father when he was a chef. It supposedly settles the stomach, and it did. The atmosphere is also nice, small and intimate and very clean. We will definitely go back!

Antigua's strengths are the tapas and their atmosphere. While the entres were good, they didn't make me as happy as I was eating the appetizers. Well worth the trip to the south side...

Everybody receives a complimentary appetizer tapas plate for dinner which includes 2 empanadas, 2 potato croquettes, & 2 mini quesadillas which are are a great intro to their food & along with everything else, scrumptious. Next, cheese & red pepper tamale tapas ($5.75), chipotle chicken ($13.99), then argentine churrasco ($19.99). Our waittress, Maria, did ask if we wanted our after dinner shots of peach schnapps. Si. We'll be back.

Place catered a work party so we decided to try it out after being thoroughly impressed. The location's food was even better than than we expected. Best nuevo latino food I've had and best in Milwaukee that I know of. Easily rivals that of contemporaries in Chicago. Service was great, location is a little puzzling but the atmosphere is wonderful as well. Highlights include the homemade chips, empanadas & of course the "chiles in nogada" dish (stuffed peppers with a walnut sauce topped with pomegranate pebbles). Overall, an unusually sophisticated restaurant for a Milwaukee palette and years ahead of most of the food scene here. This restaurant would easily dominate the downtown dining scene and puts many of the restaurants there to shame. I cannot say enough good things about it. Cheers Antigua.

A few months ago, I remember wondering what on earth they were building at 58th, Beloit and Burnham. It seems this neighborhood hasn't seen much new construction in decades and since I frequently drive past there on my way home, I was surprised and pleased to see it was the site of the new Antigua (formerly Antigua Latin Cafe on Wisconsin Avenue downtown). My husband is Mexican and Milwaukee has some great Mexican restaurants, from the hip and upscale (Cempazuchi) to the very casual but authentic (Los Comales). We're no Chicago, but there are a few gems out there among the sub-par popular margarita places like La Fuente and La Perla. All that to say, since I have a few favorites in the city already, I was looking forward to Antigua because of the fusion and the nice atmosphere I had heard of. I liked the decor immediately. It's a brick building reminiscent of many condo constructions popping up all over the city, but Antigua's dining room is painted in a rich yellow and orange that is both upbeat and soothing. The drink menu of latin-themed martinis and margarita choices caught my eye, as did the short but reasonably-priced wine list. The menu includes Mexican, Spanish and South American tapas choices, lighter lunch fare including taco plates and a dinner menu with entrees in the $12 to $20 range. There are also specials, a few salads, and a kids menu offering macaroni and cheese and plain cheese quesadillas. A lot of the entrees caught my eye, and I ended up getting a shrimp dish served with a side salad, a few fried plantains and some fantastic cilantro rice. Unfortunately I can't remember the name of the dish, but it was really tasty and I was quite happy with it. The service was good and like their mother restaurant Rey Sol, Antigua serves a house appetizer at the start of the meal and a shot of peach schnapps at the end. Receiving free food and/or alcohol during a meal always makes me happy, so that was a fun surprise. Overall, it was a nice meal. I wouldn't say it's the best Latin food I have had, but I would definitely go back. I really like the atmosphere, although it was a pretty slow Tuesday night, so hopefully they are doing better on the weekends. For me the location is great because of where I live, but it's definitely a random spot for a nicer casual restaurant and the prices are probably a little high for the area.

I was so impressed with this restaurant. The West Allis area is not known for up-scale food, so Antigua was such a nice surprise! It is located in an unassuming neighborhood, but is wonderfully decorated and even has a patio! The menu has all sorts of interesting and new flavors. The tequila cream chicken and the Equatorial Shrimp plate were both awesome. As others have mentioned, the complimentary starter and chaser schnapps is a great touch. Our waitress, Gladys, was prompt and really seemed to care about how our meal was going. The food is worth the money, but if you think ahead, you can purchase a discounted gift certificate off of their website ( antiguamilwaukee.com $35 certificate for $25). They also have 2 for 1 drinks on Wednesday from 6 to 8. Awesome place. You should go.

Who were those folks giving the four and five stars? My first dish was billed as a Peruvian marinated steak tossed with peppers and served over potatoes. I am not joking, the potatoes were frozen French fries and they were still frozen! The meat was stringy, overcooked gristle, and the peepers so overcooked they were dissolved. The taste of this disaster was beyond description but I know the Peruvians eat better than this. I sent it back and ordered a specialty of the house, knick-named "old clothes" This was no more than tasteless shredded beef which had sat in a steam cooker probably since lunch time. When the waitress asked how it was she answered her own question before I told her it was awful and she was off. Did they try and correct anything on the bill, or maybe a free dessert? Not here. My advice, Milwaukee has many good Mexican restaurants some within a block of here, avoid this place.

My husband and I highly recommend this place, but good food takes time so be prepared to wait. Once seated we had great service. The main entrees we shared were Enchiladas Yucatecas and Mole Poblano. Both dishes exceed our expectations. Don't forget to grab a margarita while you wait, but one won't be enough. We finished off the night with their famous flan and it was great. This was our second dining experience there and we plan on going back!

The best choice so far for fiesta Sunday (which is a thing we just invented). I usually try a margarita on F.S. but this time I opted for a sangria here which I loved and loved and loved. We were the only ones in here on a Sunday afternoon, but the service was on point and the staff had really good recommendations. We tried the pumpkin seed guac and it was divine. I could have just had that for a meal on its own. The menu is more Latin/South American than traditional Mexican (which is why we invented Fiesta Sunday in the first place) but it definitely worth the trip to West Allis. This is not a good restaurant for vegetarians, be warned. There is not much on the menu for you. I am happy to eat fish, so I found a few options, but if you are vegan or veggie, then you may have rough go of it. Antigua = highly recommended

I wanted to try something new, but like Mexican. Yelp recommended Antigua so I gave it a shot. Excellent restaurant. We wanted to sample many of the national cuisines offered, so we went with five tapas: pupusas, patatas bravas, empanaditas Columbianas, ceviche Mexicano, and regular guacamole. They all ranged from very good to excellent. The sangria was fabulous. I asked for the strongest non-dark beer they had and was given a bottle of Victoria. I will be searching for this at the liquor store. The service was among the best I've ever received. I can't recommend this restaurant highly enough if this is the type of food you're looking for.

I'm still going to give this place 4 stars because their food is so delicious. My fiancee and I went here for date night and it was his first time here and my seconds. We'll definitely be back. We walked in and there were four tables full, so we had our pick. It was a great ambiance again, quiet, great for our date. For starters, we got the house made appetizer. Four slices of bread and the basil aoli. It's simple, but good. I like it. Drink: Guiltless Mango Margarita with Sugar Rim (4/5) - this was really tasty. Good tequila, nice taste. Didn't taste guiltless, which was the best thing about it. Only 80 calories! Tapas: Cochinita Sliders (3.5/5) - a tasty pork and were a great combination, although the buns were really disappointing. I think a more unique bun would have sealed the deal there. Please consider changing the buns. They are so generic it didn't do the pork justice. The buns are the difference between us ordering them again and us not. We each picked an entree and then split them in half. Entree #1: Pescado al Papillote (4/5) - tilapia fish filet with basil chimichurri and white wine. I really loved the flavor of this meal. It was sitting in a pool of the chimichurri/wine and I wish it had been a 'drained' a little. It was almost hard to eat the fish because it was swimming in the sauce. :) This also came with a side salad (see side salads). My fiance, not a seafood fan, really enjoyed this. Entree #2: Tequila Cream Chicken (4/5) - non-fat cream sauce made with tequila, diced onions, and jalapeños. this comes with some avocado slices, a mound of rice, and a side salad. this really isn't spicy, despite having jalapeños listed. My fiance agreed that this is really tasty, despite being non-fat, it's still got a nice creamy consistency and a rich, but not too rich flavor. I'd love to try this salmon. Side Salads: 2.5/5 - These had a great flavor, BUT they were SOAKED in the salad dressing. If the dressing amount was halved, it would have been perfect. Next time I will ask for the dressing on the side. Conclusion: Despite the side salads and the bread on the pork sliders, we had a great time and will definitely be back. The service here is SO nice and while some people say it's slow - my fiance thought it was a little slow as well - I like it. If you order right away and get the house appetizer and a tapas, I think the meal flows beautifully. I give 4/5 stars because the things we didn't like were really easily fixable (different buns, less salad dressing!) Give this place a try!

Last night was my first encounter at Antigua and I was not disappointed. We went with some friends that frequent the restaurant pretty often and have been raving about it for some time. We started with the plantains and ceviche. The plantains were absolutely insane. I have never had them done in that style before. They sauté them in oil, garlic, and seasonings so they take on an almost potato consistency. They were SO good. Ceviche isn't my thing at all but my fiancé loves it and said that Antigua's was very very good. I had the southwest chicken salad because I wasn't very hungry and that was wonderful. Super flavorful and great textures for a salad. My fiancé chose the encocado de cameron. He loved it! I tried the cilantro rice that was his side dish and was pleasantly surprised at the great flavor it had! This place is remarkable and we will be back for sure. Probably sooner rather than later!

I had the pleasure of having lunch at Antigua on Christmas Eve with 2 of my friends from work. With it being a holiday, we were the only customers in the restaurant. Our server was very friendly and personable. He did an excellent job of explaining the menu to us. We started out with the house appetizer, which is an aioli dip with bread. Oh. My. God. The dip is fabulous! It's a good thing that there were 2 other people with me. Otherwise, I would have eaten the entire appetizer by myself! We also tried their sun dried tomato & roasted pumpkin seed guacamole. The pumpkin seeds gave it a different kind of flavor. But it was very good, and I would eat it again. For my meal, I had the Camarones Antigua. It is shrimp stuffed with melted cheese, wrapped in bacon, and served with a spicy sauce on top. It comes with a side of cilantro rice and a house salad. It is $18.29, and worth every penny of it. When I first saw the dish, I didn't think I was going to feel full after eating it. Was I wrong. I felt very satisfied after finishing the meal. Antigua also has a large selection of wine, beer and other drinks to choose from. I will be back, for sure.

Took my colleagues here for dinner before we left town, and they were very skeptical. When we left, they each bookmarked to return! I'd have to give 4.5 stars (Yelp: please expand voting to ten so there's more wiggle room. Started out with the empanadas, savory. Came out piping hot, but a little small for the the price: 3 for $7. They were very good; perfectly seasoned. Everyone stared at each other for the last piece (we halved them). Again, just a bit too small. Dinner: Lomo Soltado. Wow. This dish was amazing. Perfectly seasoned with just the right amount of spiciness. I wasn't expecting such a kick, but it was a good kick. The cilantro rice was spot on also. My only complaint about this dish: I couldn't stop eating it! Portion was generous, but I wanted more! Dessert: Flan. I prefer my flan on the cold side. They serve it warm here. Very dense, with just enough caramel, but not too much to make it very sweet. It was good, but I prefer it cold. All in all, i'll definitely return here next time I'm in Milwaukee for work. My colleagues meals all looked delicious, and they had nothing but good things to say. I would have tasted their dishes, but I was selfish, and didn't want to give up any of mine :)

I was back in Milwaukee for a few days and had a chance to sample the great ambience, service, and margaritas at Antigua. What a treat! Everyone was so nice, and the bartender whipped up some very tasty cocktails. I wish I had had time to eat dinner as I had done in the past, also with five star results. I will definitely make the time to do so again on a future visit.

I dined at Antigua many years ago and it didn't provide enough great reasons to bring me back. Well today, they lucked out...as did I. We were trying to use an Entertainment Book coupon at a Mexican restaurant on the southside of Milwaukee, and after three strike-outs due to restaurants no longer in business under the name in the Entertainment Book, we ended up at Antigua. I guess it was meant to be. Everything about our experience was good. The place is super clean and pretty with a modern Latin decor. Our waiter, Alejandro (you can call me Alex), was excellent and provided some great recommendations and was always on top of it...which I supposed wasn't too difficult as there were only 3 other tables occupied in the restaurant at the time, but he still gets an A+ in service. Being here on a Sunday, they had the brunch menu to order from and we could have also ordered off the Tapas menu. They have a nice selection of Mexican, Cuban, Spanish and other Latin cuisines to choose from. We started with a complimentary appetizer of cilantro butter and warm bread. I ordered a Mexican Bloody Mary which is made with tequila. It was really spicy, just the way I like it, and didn't have an overpowering tequila taste which I was a little worried about. We also ordered the fried plantains which were very good. I had the Chicken Mole with rice and corn tortillas and my husband ordered the Chilaquiles (my first choice - but after he read the description, he had to get it). Both were good, but I would recommend the Chilaquiles as it was really tasty. The steak had great flavor. Although, we were both pretty full, we had to get dessert because of the sign stating "Milwaukee's Best Flan" by Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. It was good...but I don't think I can call it the best. I prefer my flan to be a little thicker custard. Overall we had a great experience and I am glad we were able to give Antigua a second go around as they exceeded my expectations. I would highly recommend the restaurant and hope to get back one day for dinner. The menu looks really good and the cocktail selection is intriguing.

Very nice Cuban-style menu. A great lunch menu includes quick meals to get you out in 20 minutes. I'll be back! Antigua is a true hidden gem. I stumbled across it off the main streets while on my way to some place else in the neighborhood. But the food is flavorful and well prepared, and the lunches are not terribly pricey.

We went there on a Saturday night to celebrate my husband's birthday. The Cilantro Aioli was just amazing but the 4 tiny bit sized pieces of bread that came with it was just an insult to the aioli. Although the place wasn't too crowded, our order took awhile to come out for some reason. We ordered the Cuban Pork and the Tequila Lime Chicken. I must say the portions were small for a main dish. It's not a great meal out when you go home hungry. The Cuban pork was very bland but the tequila lime chicken sauce was just amazing, wish they had bigger portions... The deco was good but the tables were too close together I felt. It's an ok place to go on a date I guess since you can have a conversation. We had to drive 30mins to come here and the food didn't make it wow as such to drive there again. It's nice they use Square for credit card payment. Kudos to the chef who made the cilantro aioli and the tequila lime sauce!

My boyfriend and I drive by here a lot, but this is the first time we've stopped by. There are some pros and cons to this place. PROS: Really good food. Very friendly and prompt service. Not crowded. CONS: I'm not super adventurous when it comes to food, and a LOT of the menu items were unfamiliar and I didn't feel like they were well described. We were happy with what we ordered, but it really just a shot in the dark when it came to ordering. We asked our waitress a few questions, and while she was an excellent server, she wasn't very helpful in explaining the dishes. My boyfriend HATES cilantro, and when he ordered, he asked for his meal with no cilantro. They took it out of the actual sandwich, but still sprinkled it over everything he ordered... he was able to brush it off, but when you ask for something to not be in your food, I think it should go without saying you don't want it on top of your food either. Like I said, we had really good food. Other than the cilantro for my boyfriend, there was just one dish we didn't care for-- the choriqueso, which was described as a dip, but was very solid and you couldn't dip anything into it. I had to cut it up with my fork and place it on the chip. Not quite what I had in mind. The flavors were all a bit unexpected, but really good. It's a bit expensive, in my opinion, but nice for a change of pace.

Driving past this place every day for almost a year and FINALLY came in with my sister and armed with a Living Social coupon. The staff if very friendly and attentive, the restaurant itself is bright, welcoming, cozy. The pumpkin seed guacamole is A+. The seeds add something extra, the sun-dried tomatoes lend a great texture, and the housemade chips are a little sweet with a heavy crunch. I would return just for that. The pupusas were good, but a little lacking in flavor. We shared the Encocao de Camarones, which was also good. But the price was quite high for what we actually got, and the sauce was too sweet without anything to balance it. I would have liked more spicy heat, a little tang, something so that I didn't feel like I was eating shrimp dessert. I would return to try a few other things, definitely drinks. Hoping future visits raise the star rating.

Reservation was at 7:15. Pm. Sat down at 7:20. And ordered food. Now as I write this review it is 830 pm and still no food. . 8:35 got food. Ordered the tequila chicken. Really small portions for the cost but very good food. However why over an hour wait. For such a small portion.

Another excellent find! Food was delicious, and, Service was great, parking a bit tight . Place was not overly crowded on thurs night . Menu selection provides for variety of choices, from tapas style (variety of small dishes to share) or select your own individual dinner plates. I would recommend the owner redo the menus to include pictures of the delicious plates, But u really can't go wrong w anything here , it's all very good . Clean and friendly!

I am torn between 3 and 4 stars... after the bread lacking creativity and the ceviche and the price - it's 3 for this visit. We ordered mojitos a regular, and a pomegranate - good. I read a yelp review that said they were $5, I would have been very happy. But, they were in fact $7.50. The bread and dip come out to the table. It's an aioli dip. The dip was delish but, of all things to serve just 4 little slices of plain 'ole white bread? Stop it. Antigua needs to find their creative side and come up with a signature item to serve with the aioli. I've got an idea: Yuca Chips. Or whatever just Ditch the flimsy boring white bread. Apps we had the corn soup -- YUMMY! And the shrimp ceviche. In the words of my partner: "My sister makes better (shrimp) ceviche. Yikes! And I echo other yelpers... bland, not enough lime, no salt, no spice. Maybe offer a mild or spicy version of the dish. We asked for hot sauce and it tasted a lot better but still lacked citrus. Food, we shared the seafood paella. I thought it was very good. But, I am new to the paella food group, so I don't have much to compare it to. The yelper that said it feeds 4+ people must have been suffering from anorexia. We had that bread, 2 apps and still finished 99% of that paella - Two People. Total bill before Groupon was about $75, so it's not cheap. (we ea had 2 drinks, also which added to the cost) I am going back for the Easter Buffet, so I like the place enough to go back soon. I wanted to be more impressed than I was - but 3 stars is still "A-ok". I read a lot of other reviews while at Antigua and noticed how good things "used to be"... offering shots, appetizer samplers, $5 mojitos, etc. Now, I understand this maybe was for new business hype and eventually it wasn't financially feasible to continue giving "free" stuff (it can still be built in to the meal cost, however) - but it's cool to do something no other restaurant does. And, these great yelp reviews Antigua received in the past might actually do harm if the "good times" are gone and there's nothing unique or fun anymore.

I came here on a Sunday night as a group of two with the yelp $10 for $20 deal. I have noticed that some groupons etc. get you smaller portions/different menus/poor service, but this yelp deal gives you the exact experience as any other paying customer, which was really nice. The restaurant was somewhat empty when I came in, which I think has to do with the restaurant's sort of random location. However service was great. Our server was very attentive and treated us well. You start off with a teaser of cilantro aioli with a bit of bread, which was a perfect start to the meal. We ordered Cuban style platanos, pupusas, and Mexican ceviche. The platanos we ordered were the kind that are soft and doused in a very strong garlic sauce. Unexpected but good! The pupusas were good as expected, and the curtido was awesome. (Does curtido remind anyone else of kimchi??) Finally the Mexican ceviche was awesome - just the right flavor. The tortilla chips it came with seemed house made. The final bill was $3 + $10 that I paid for the yelp deal, which I think is a more than reasonable price for what we got. Definitely want to come back!!

I believe that Antigua succeeds where other Latin American restaurants fail. I've dined here several times over the years and have never had a bad meal. In fact, every visit has been better than the previous. That is a great sign, no? Si! The menu has also changed over the years which is another great sign. This chef is not content with settling. He (I know it the chef is a man because I met him) seems to challenge himself and look for ways to get the customers coming back. On my last visit, my friend and I started with the Pupusas, which are "yellow corn tortilla dough pockets filled with cheese and pork." They are served with a mix of cabbage, carrots, oregano, peppers and vinegar, and also salsa. Put the last two on top of the pupusa and enjoy! For our entrees, we ordered the Gambas al Ajillo, jumbo shrimp sauteed with garlic and white wine, and the Cochinita Pibil, a "Yucatan style pulled pork" dish. Both entrees were served with Cilantro rice and black refried beans. I have yet to find Cilantro rice like this is any other restaurant in Milwaukee. The sauce for the shrimp was amazing and the shrimp were cooked perfectly. The pulled pork was tender and the Achiote seasoning along with the pickled red onions on top of the pork combined for a savory sensation. On my last visit Chef Nico told me he is in process of updating the menu again, by removing some less popular items with new dishes. In fact we got to try one of the candidates, a pork tenderloin dish with a house made salsa verde. I hope that one makes the new menu because it was awesome! Antigua also offers cooking classes. I took a paella cooking class last year and made it at home a few months later. I followed the recipe card we were given and remembered a few key points from the class. My paella turned out GREAT! I even took a picture of its beauty and posted it on FB. I was quite proud. If Chef Nico can teach me how to make a delicious paella, imagine how good the food is that HE cooks! Antigua serves a Latin style Sunday Brunch, which I haven't tried yet, but I will for sure. They also make great cocktails and have Happy Hour specials. I really like this restaurant. Can you tell?

Had a wonferful dining experience here. As other reviews have said, the aesthetic is fresh and modern but still maintains the bright colors of mexican culture. I had the chiontro margarita which seemed off to me. Spoke with my waitress turns out it was prepared wrong and i was comped. Mistakes happen and the gesture was appeciated. Entree was Yucatan enchiladas which had a nice warm spice. The yellow sauce and pulled pork combo was a fresh and exciting preperation. Tasted great. 5 stars.

Old time favorite! In the past year they have made some menu changes which has been both good and bad. The bad part is they changed the shrimp ceviche to white fish and it's not nearly as good as it used to be. Like I said above I have been here many times and it's safe to say its one of my favorites! On my most recent visit I had the churrasco argentino and it was delish! At my table we also ordered the tilapia and it was prepared well, but was fishy. The muddy tasting fish is not their fault- that's what your going to get when you live hundreds of miles from the ocean! For dessert we ordered the flan which was excellent as always! Bottom line is you should really try Antiqua!!

Way back in the days before twitter, facebook and yelp, I dined at Antigua. We're talking a long time ago -- like 2006 or something. Anyway, for whatever reason, Antigua didn't trip my trigger. Today, on a Sunday, or what my wife and I like to call pick-a-random-southside-Mexican-restaurant-day, we dined again at Antigua. This time, trigger tripped. The crazy thing is that Antigua was our 4th choice today. We have an Entertainment book and we were trying to use coupons for 3 other southside restaurants first. In all 3 tries we found the Mexican restaurant we were looking for to be out of business or replaced by a business of a new name. Wow. The Mexican restaurant business sure is a tough one, my friends! Maybe it was fate that brought us back to Antigua. The food, service and setting was sublime and we had a very enjoyable brunch. I dined on the hot version of Chilaquiles known as "Chilakillers." Chilakillers are crispy tortilla chips smothered with red Diabla salsa until the chips soften. Then they are garnished with cheese, sour cream and charcoal grilled beef strips. Called "the Mexican hangover cure," it was so tasty that I almost wished I had a hangover to cure! They advertise that their flan was named Milwaukee's Best Flan by the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. I can't speak on the Journal Sentinel's behalf, but Antigua's flan is mucho bueno! Cool flan with caramel sauce and whipped cream -- so delicious it's like I died and went to Jalisco (where tequila is from, so kind of like Heaven). We had great service, too, by a young fellow named Alejandro ... but you can call him Alex. He was conscientious and made certain that we were satisfied customers. That goes a long way with me. Alex could teach many older service professionals a thing or two about waiting tables. Cool, too, was that Antigua was the first restaurant that we've dined at that brought a Square-equipped iPad to the table at checkout. I love this idea -- you get to keep an eye on your credit card, it's fast, saves paper and you get the receipt emailed to your pocket in mere tenths of a second. Thanks to a great brunch experience today at Antigua, you can bet it won't be another 7 years till our return. And at the rate of change in the world of technology, the next time I return I ought to be able to share the experience with the Smellogram or Taste-o-vision app. If I were you, I'd be looking forward to my return!!
